Every day we play with a creative challenge. What we create doesn’t have to be grand. It doesn’t have to be perfect. We aim to stretch our creative muscles, be playful, and have fun!
Every day we take a little journey with some unexpected turns. That’s the beauty of creativity. If you just let it, it will fill you with wonder.
The Challenge
Our creative challenge today is made of the following set. If you are familiar with the creomondi building blocks, use the set to explore, imagine, and create. Alternatively, read how we played with it for inspiration first.
The Playground We Will Explore
The Seed We Will Use in our Exploration
And We Are Aiming to Create…
Let’s Play
Ready to dance? Today, our game starts with dancing, or more specifically, with the Disco Seed. Your exploration playground is your mind. All you have to do is find somewhere quiet, close your eyes and think about the Seed. Soon, some associations will show up. Flow with them and see where they take you.
Based on this mental journey, the next step is to create an emoji or a sequence of existing ones inspired by what you saw and sensed.
Now, the Seed we are using today might sound pretty concrete. But keep in mind that the thing we are about to create will be derived from our free associations and imagination. Each of us will probably take the Seed to a different place. You might even think of a personal memory or experience.
I never liked dancing, but I love music. When I was in high school, I never danced, but I went to parties and clubs every now and then. Apart from the music I loved, I was always hypnotized by the lighting and how it amplified the experience. Maybe this is why the first images I saw in my mind while thinking about the word Disco were related to lighting. I never saw a real disco floor in the clubs I visited, but the visual image from old music videos and films obviously left an impression. Disco balls were more common, and again the visual effect they had created was burnt in my memory.
These images floated in my mind, and now I had to translate them into an emoji. I don’t know if there are any formal rules for creating an emoji, but clearly, it has to be based on a drawing and not a photograph, and it has to be clear enough to be recognizable in small format, as part of a text.
With the combination of a disco ball and a disco floor, I managed to visually capture my associations and the concept of Disco. At least I hope so.
Now, It Is Your Turn…
Don’t follow my steps! Take the set of cards and play with them. Use them as a guide and not as a set of rules. Let your imagination lead the way. Don’t dismiss your ideas.
Have fun! Be creative!
